Electronic Travel Authority
ETA stands for "Electronic Travel Authority".
This is a new concept in travel which allows you to apply online for your travel visa to Australia and some other countries.
The Electronic Travel Authority is ELECTRONICALLY ATTACHED to the applicants passport by being registered and stored on the Australian Governments immigration computer database.
ALL applications are checked against multiple local and international databases for such things as criminal, health and terrorist offences. Children are also screened against Do Not Travel databases from applicant countries which check against children who have travel restrictions placed on them by a parent or guardian. For more information on "Watch Lists", please click here.
Not all ETA Visas are approved immediately.
Approx 8% are NOT APPROVED immediately and may take up to 12 hours to clear.
Approx 1% of those may require the applicant to personally attend the nearest Australian Embassy to do a manual lodgement.
APPLY at least 2-3 weeks BEFORE you travel to avoid disappointment.
